Completed July 2008

This robe is the second I have made based on the 1790s robe pattern in Janet Arnold's Patterns of Fashion.  This was inspired by the look that Marianne and Elinor wore on a picnic in the 1995 Sense and Sensibility movie.  I made the robe in a hurry, which means machine hems all around, but I love the color of this fabric! Several years ago Joann Fabrics carried a line of Indian block printed fabrics, so I snatched up whatever lengths they had. This one proved just enough for the robe! I used the block of the white dotted swiss for the pattern, which was adopted from the Robe in Janet Arnold. Looking at the pics, I did not follow the pattern for the pleats but draped it on the form. I think it came out pretty well! I just love Regency robes- they're one of my favorite costume looks of all time!

This is shown over my dotted swiss gown, dress diaries here.
